A British political leader, who recently expressed concerns about his own safety following the shocking murder of a political competitor, is now facing backlash for sharing images that appear to incite violence.

Anne Widecombe, spokesperson for Reform UK’s immigration policy, was tragically killed on July 8th at her residence in Devon, England. It was a brutal act that shocked many.

According to reports, Joshua Kelly, a figure from Rotherham, was allegedly responsible for Widecombe’s death. He is said to have traveled approximately 470 miles to her home, where he attacked her multiple times with a hammer.

The police are investigating after discovering that Kelly had been gathering clippings related to Reform UK, Nigel Farage, and the party’s policies on immigration.

In the wake of this assassination—carried out by someone deeply opposed to the principles of British reform—Zac Polanski, the Green Party leader in England and Wales, has raised alarms about his own safety. He has publicly requested more security from the government, sharing his worries. “It’s concerning for me and other party leaders,” he noted.

A spokesperson from the Home Office remarked that politicians must not face threats of violence or harassment and should be able to perform their duties safely.

Recently, Polanski shared a controversial image on social media that featured a person in a T-shirt bearing a picture of a guillotine alongside a phrase that seemed to mock the recent events. This post has since been removed.

Farage commented on Polanski’s actions, suggesting that had he shared something similar, he would face arrest. Farage described the situation as “astonishing,” especially just a couple of weeks after Widecombe’s murder, accusing Polanski of enabling violence.

The Metropolitan Police have acknowledged that they are looking into the images shared on platforms, taking such reports extremely seriously. Meanwhile, Polanski’s representatives have expressed regret over the insensitivity of the image shared. They clarified that he had not been fully aware of the context when he posted it and urged everyone to promote kindness in public discourse.
