Missile Attack on Iranian Leader’s Mansion Sparks Reactions
Footage has surfaced showing the chaos as American and Israeli missiles struck the residence of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Witnesses reacted with disbelief; from the video, laughter was heard as onlookers took in the sight of thick smoke rising from the fortified complex.
This incident, part of what the State Department termed “Operation Epic Fury,” also targeted military facilities nearby. I found it striking when one woman exclaimed, “Oh my god, they hit. They hit. Oh my god!” Her tone suggested a mix of shock and maybe nervous laughter. She even pointed out, “They attacked the Supreme Leader’s compound!”
Reports indicate that at least seven missiles targeted Khamenei’s stronghold in central Tehran, and additional strikes happened near the presidential palace. Interestingly, the 86-year-old leader was not present in Tehran during the attacks and, as the situation unfolded, moved to a secure location.
Airstrikes were noted in other regions too, including Isfahan and Qom, though the overall impact of the strikes was still unclear early Saturday.
In response, Iran launched retaliatory attacks across Bahrain, one of which reportedly affected a U.S. naval base. The joint strike by U.S. and Israeli forces was a response to Iran’s refusal to dismantle its nuclear program amid ongoing negotiations.
According to President Trump, the intent behind Operation Epic Fury was to safeguard the American public by eliminating perceived threats from the Iranian regime. He also urged the Iranian populace to rise against what he termed a “violent” government.
Trump set a deadline for Iranian officials regarding negotiations over the ongoing nuclear discussions, expressing that failure to reach a resolution could lead to serious consequences. He remains firm that any deal must not allow Iran to enrich uranium, citing concerns about nuclear proliferation, while Iran maintains its pursuits are for civilian use.
In a separate statement, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee advised American citizens to exit the embassy promptly. This strike marks the first major offensive against Iran since Operation Midnight Hammer last June, which had targeted specific nuclear facilities.
