Transforming U.S. Trade Policy

J.D. Vance discussed how President Trump has significantly altered U.S. trade policy to benefit American workers, promote manufacturing, and restore economic independence during a chat with Breitbart News’ Matthew Boyle on Thursday.

“For a long time, our trade negotiators favored this misguided notion of free trade over fair trade. They ended up sacrificing American workers’ interests in the process,” Vance stated.

He emphasized that the Trump administration has changed the trajectory of U.S. trade practices. Instead of simply opening American markets to foreign goods, there’s now a focus on urging other countries to welcome American products.

“Whether dealing with China, India, or any other nation, the core idea is to ensure that Americans gain better access to their markets. We trust our workers and believe we have the best products in the world, and we want to market them everywhere. That’s our top priority,” Vance explained.

The second key aspect of Trump’s trade policy is to safeguard American workers and important domestic sectors from unfair competition abroad.

“We don’t want foreign goods to undercut American wages. We’re committed to protecting our markets and crucial industries, which is a vital component of the Trump trade strategy,” Vance added.

Vance described the third principle as using the country’s economic strength to foster global peace. He suggested that transforming military resources into constructive opportunities could lead to prosperity for American workers.

“We can take advantage of the immense economic power of the United States, which contributes around 25 percent of the global GDP, maybe even a bit more. Why not use this leverage to promote peace? When nations aren’t in conflict and focus on productive activities instead of manufacturing weapons, it opens up fantastic economic prospects for Americans,” Vance articulated.
