Former Biden Aide Commends Trump’s Iran Airstrike, Concedes Harris Wouldn’t Have Had the ‘Courage’

Concerns Raised About Kamala Harris and U.S.-Iran Relations

Former aides to Presidents Bill Clinton and Joe Biden voiced their views on Sunday, suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris has not demonstrated the necessary “courage or fortitude” regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Early Sunday morning, the U.S. targeted nuclear sites in Fordor, Natanz, and Isfahan, responding to Iran’s pursuit of nuclear capabilities. Jamie Metzle, who was part of the National Security Council during the Clinton administration and later worked with Biden, stated he is not simply a “blind tribalist” while still backing Harris for the 2024 election. In a post on social media, he expressed mixed feelings about the situation.

“I voted for Kamala Harris, and I’ve been critical of many dangerous and undemocratic actions by [former President Donald] Trump,” he said. However, he also noted he feels comfortable acknowledging Trump’s bold moves that aligned with U.S. interests.

“I worked for the National Security Council under Clinton. I was also with Joe Biden’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I voted for Harris but criticized problematic actions by Trump,” Metzle mentioned.

Metzl pointed out that Iran has been in conflict with the United States for over four decades, leading to numerous American casualties. He emphasized that slogans like “Death to America” are not just rhetoric but reflect a genuine threat, aiming to acquire nuclear weapons to endanger the U.S. and its allies, especially in the Middle East.

The recent American strike comes just ten days after Israel’s military action targeting Iran’s nuclear sites. Following this, Iran has signaled its refusal to engage in negotiations and has continued missile attacks on Israeli cities.

“Such actions are not without their risks. I anticipate that the situation will become increasingly complicated,” Metzle shared. “While I believe electing Kamala Harris is beneficial for our democracy and vulnerable communities, I do question whether she possessed the courage to make the tough decisions the president did last night.”
