President Joe Biden’s former chief of staff accused his former boss of focusing on “fucking bridges” instead of the economy, according to audio obtained by Politico.

Ronald Klain was allegedly seen on a recording speaking about White House communications strategy at a “Democracy: A Journal of Ideas” event on April 4th.former chief of staff to the president later told Politico While he stood by his initial criticism of the White House’s communications strategy, he said he was proud of Biden’s accomplishments.

“I think the president talks too much about bridges,” Klain said, according to audio obtained exclusively by Politico. “He does two or three ribbon-cutting events a week on the bridge. And here’s the bridge. For example, if you go to the grocery store, if you go to the grocery store, you can’t eat eggs. And milk is expensive, the fact that there is a fucking bridge is not [inaudible]”

The former chief of staff went on to emphasize the benefits of the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure projects, but added some skepticism.

“He’s not a member of Congress. He’s not going to run for Congress,” Crane said. “I think that’s a fool’s errand in some ways. I think so. Klain spoke to Politico about the recording of his comments, adding that he continued to attend events throughout his presidency to praise the president’s successes.

“The president’s most effective economic message is the contrast between which side he is on and his compassion for the people. [pinch] Mr. Klain told Politico that he is focused on reforming household finances and policies that cut costs and increase incomes, and that praising achievements, especially those that involve abstract benefits, is not very convincing to voters.

The White House and its allies have abandoned the term “Bidenomics” to describe the president’s economic policies. As of March 24, Biden has not used the term “Bidenomics” since January 25, with the exception of one speech in North Carolina in the spring, according to an Axios analysis. The president avoided using the term in his State of the Union address.

Democrats petitioned the White House in September 2023 to reconsider using the term, concerned that it would upset Americans who continue to struggle financially, Politico reported. According to Politico, officials close to the president warned the White House that using the term to tout economic success was a political failure.

The White House suggested to Politico that there was no significant difference between the administration’s communications strategy and what former staffers were proposing.

“As Ron says, President Biden is running around the country on the State of the Union message, blocking the trickle-down policies that Republican officials have proposed on behalf of the people, while increasing the growth of the middle class and reducing costs such as prescription drugs. “We’re emphasizing that we’re fighting for cuts,” said White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates. “The president reiterated that message in yesterday’s Univision interview, and he has no intention of relaxing that message.”
