Romero, who served as California Senate Majority Leader, Announced On Wednesday, she said she was “joining a growing number” of people leaving the Democratic Party and changing her voter registration to Republican.
“I've been a Democrat for almost my entire life now and I join the growing number of people leaving the Democratic Party, including key groups like Latinos,” Romero said. “This is not the Democratic Party I once supported. I no longer identify with it and can no longer continue it. I changed my voting registration today, in the light of day, to the Republican Party, which has become the champion of working people under Donald Trump.”
the next day, Interview Romero, along with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, slammed Vice President Kamala Harris' record on education while she was California's attorney general, saying she “did nothing to change our schools.”
Romero noted that Governor Harris once tried to pass a bill that would “jail the mothers of students who refuse to go to school.”
“I have sought to defend school choice and educational freedom in California,” Romero explained. “Her record as Attorney General shows that she has done nothing to change schools and make school choice possible.”
Romero added that in Harris' hometown of Oakland, 75 percent of African-American and Latino children currently cannot do math, read or write at a “basic proficiency level.”
“But she went to court with the teachers unions – very powerful megadonors – to block education reforms that these families had the courage to go to court and sue,” Romero continued. “That's the record of the California Attorney General.”
Romero's departure from the Democratic Party comes after California Sen. Marie Alvarado Gil announced she was leaving the Democratic Party in early August. departure She said she no longer “recognizes” the party.
“Blue California may be blue, but its people are ready to vote for change to make America great again, and I'm proud to say that today,” Romero added.
