Former CIA Director John Brennan's challenging year might worsen: 'Perhaps they need to face consequences for that'

Former CIA Director John Brennan, who also advised Barack Obama’s administration on counterterrorism, seems to be facing increasing challenges this year, with the situation potentially worsening.

How did it begin?

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump issued a Presidential Order targeting Brennan and 50 other ex-Intelligence Directors who had signed a controversial letter on October 19, 2020 that helped the New York Post discredit a report from October 14 regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Trump stated that the signatories “deliberately weaponized the gravity of the intelligence community to influence political processes and undermine democratic institutions.”

Brennan, who had previously voiced concerns on MSNBC, was hit hard by the order that revoked security clearances for the signatories, which Trump described as a response to their criticisms of him.

However, Brennan’s situation grew even murkier following a review by CIA Director John Ratcliffe that examined how under Brennan’s leadership, the CIA concluded that Russia had attempted to influence the 2016 election to favor Trump.

This review, requested by Obama, highlighted procedural issues in a December 2016 assessment that had become the foundation for claims of Russian collusion.

Despite a surge of warnings about the Steele Dossier, opposition inquiries indicated that the Clinton campaign’s financing of it raised red flags regarding its credibility.
Moreover, the review suggested that Brennan’s significant involvement in developing assessments was uncommon and likely disrupted the review process, affecting the analysis’s integrity.

Ratcliffe’s commentary on X emphasized that “Every world can see the truth. Brennan, Clapper, and Comey manipulated intelligence and silenced career experts.”

“I think they’re bent like hell.”

A week after the report’s release, a source from the Department of Justice noted that a criminal investigation into potential misconduct related to the Russian conspiracy narrative was underway, focusing on whether false statements were made to Congress.

While specifics are sparse, the New York Times indicated that CIA and FBI officials were tight-lipped, and the DOJ had declined to discuss ongoing investigations, describing interactions involving Comey and Brennan within the scope of a conspiracy.

The Washington Post later confirmed that Ratcliffe recently summoned Brennan, which has prompted a criminal inquiry concerning alleged false statements made to Congress.

Interestingly, the facts from Ratcliffe’s review seem to contradict Brennan’s earlier claims to Congress.

How is that going?

Noticing the precarious position he’s in, Brennan has attempted to play the victim on cable news platforms.

After the Ratcliffe review emerged, he appeared on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” to characterize the DOJ’s investigation into him and Comey as consistent with an “authoritarian playbook.”

On Wednesday, he reiterated his stance on MSNBC, lamenting the “sad and tragic” politicization of the intelligence community and national security processes.

When asked about the actions he perceived as dishonest, he expressed a strong belief that those involved were “bad people,” a sentiment he echoed repeatedly.
