Investigation Initiated into Elon Musk’s Communications During DOGE Leadership

A former FBI agent has begun an inquiry regarding Elon Musk’s use of X while he was at the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in 2025. This action draws parallels to the scrutiny faced by Hillary Clinton over her private email server, based on emails exclusively obtained.

These emails were first shared with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley as whistleblower information. They detail the communication sent by this ex-agent following Musk’s controversial mandate requiring federal employees to provide weekly updates on five specific tasks.

This email was dispatched on February 22, 2025, the same day Musk mandated that federal employees begin reporting their productivity. He made this announcement through a post on X and via email, stating that failure to respond would be interpreted as a resignation.

Interestingly, this email came just two days after FBI Director Kash Patel was confirmed to lead the bureau. Later, in October 2025, Patel disbanded the Public Corruption Unit, known as CR-15.

The emails indicate that investigators were inclined to launch a probe into Musk’s actions. In one correspondence, the agent recommended a criminal investigation against an official at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) who had authorized Musk’s directive. The agent argued that this led to extensive misuse of official time and possibly encouraged numerous public employees to share classified information in violation of long-standing security policies.

The correspondence goes on to allege that Musk was using a private platform (Twitter) for official communication, which, it seems, could have generated revenue for him due to his significant ownership stake in the company. This method of communication evokes memories of the scrutiny faced by Clinton, with claims that it likely infringed both federal law and specific regulations.

The agent noted that the most favorable interpretation of Musk’s directive hinted at firing employees unless they engaged in behavior against policy.

The agent expressed a desire to advocate for an appropriate legal response and indicated no lightheartedness in the matter.

At that time, Musk was functioning as a special civil servant leading DOGE. The FBI later clarified that as of February, no investigations into Musk had been underway and noted that the email sender no longer works for the bureau.

In earlier statements, the FBI emphasized its commitment to eliminating entrenched corruption and ensuring fairness within its operations. The organization clarified that Patel had prioritized restoring an unbiased justice system.

As for Musk, he has yet to publicly respond to these developments.
