Dan Bongino Expresses Fears of Retaliation for FBI Reform Efforts
Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has shared a troubling concern, expressing his fear that “thugs” might target his home in response to his attempts at reforming the agency.
In a recent podcast episode of “Hangout with Sean Hannity,” Bongino spoke candidly about his disheartening experiences during his tenure at the FBI, stating that he was left “horrified” by what he witnessed.
“I’m scared,” he told Hannity. “I know what I’ve done, and I’m proud of my work. I’ve accomplished so much in the past year, but every day, I think, ‘They’re going to come for me.’”
Bongino, who joined the FBI in March 2025 and resigned in January 2026, initially aimed to create a transparent and accountable organization. However, he now feels that his efforts have made him a target.
The former deputy director described encountering resistance from colleagues he labeled as “snakes” who leaked classified information to the media. He also revealed that he discovered what he calls the “mother lode” of documents related to the “Russiagate” investigation, allegedly found in FBI burn bags.
His knowledge about these files has led to anxiety about his future. Bongino voiced his fears that opponents might wield the legal system against him, possibly leading to incarceration. “This crosses my mind every day. I know how they operate, and it’s something I’ll have to live with indefinitely,” he said.
He emphasized that he had sought outside legal counsel to ensure that he and Kash Patel acted properly. Still, he expressed doubt that proper procedures would shield them from potential repercussions. “They’ll rewrite the narrative like they did with President Trump,” he remarked, referring to the charges that emerged after Trump left office.
Bongino expressed horror at the extent of the actions taken against Trump during the Russian investigation, lamenting how none of it was stopped.
He confided his anxieties to his wife, fearing that if Republicans were to lose the next presidential election, they might face unjust actions against them. “I truly worry that they will start weaponizing the justice system,” he said, adding, “It’s a concern I live with daily.”
