A former California Highway Patrol officer has been accused of inappropriate behavior on a JetBlue flight, including slapping a male flight attendant and making obscene gestures. Dennis Wally Woodbury, 49, from Azusa, California, faces charges of abusive sexual contact within U.S. territorial jurisdiction, which could result in a two-year prison sentence.
The incident occurred on April 13 during a flight from Florida to Los Angeles, where Woodbury reportedly drank heavily and engaged in a series of inappropriate actions toward two flight attendants.
Before takeoff, he allegedly showed a flight attendant a picture of his dog, which contained pornographic content in the background. He also made comments suggesting the crew join him on a cruise, accompanied by inappropriate hand gestures.
The situation escalated during the flight. After the meal service, Woodbury slapped the buttocks of one flight attendant and shouted, “I love you!” He later approached another flight attendant in the front galley, pulled down his pants and underwear, exposing his genitals.
When confronted, Woodbury demanded a glass of wine, but it was refused. He reportedly exposed himself again before the flight attendant directed him to return to his seat.
Both attendants reported the incidents, stating they disapproved of Woodbury’s behavior. JetBlue responded to the situation, emphasizing that customer and crew safety is their top priority. They acted promptly by notifying law enforcement and are cooperating fully with the investigation.
Woodbury appeared in court last month and has been released on a $50,000 bond, with a court date set for May 12. He had previously been dismissed from his role as captain with the California Highway Patrol.
