Call for Accountability Following Comey’s Post
On Thursday, Richard Starpoly, a former Secret Service agent, appeared on “Ingraham Angle” and urged that senior officials in the FBI and Secret Service be dismissed after ex-FBI director James Comey shared a troubling number, “8647,” on social media.
Comey’s post, which featured a photo of a shell on the beach with that number, stirred controversy. Laura Ingraham questioned Starpoly about his thoughts on the message he believed both departments should receive.
Ingraham expressed concern about corruption within these agencies, citing a desire for reform aimed at increasing efficiency and transparency. “There are dedicated people who want to do this,” she noted.
Starpoly pointed out the serious threats to the president’s safety, stating that the FBI’s and Secret Service’s leadership should be replaced, emphasizing that they do not prioritize the necessary actions. “They need to let her and her team handle it,” he remarked.
Initially, Comey described his beach find as a “cool shell formation,” but later acknowledged that he was unaware of the violent interpretations some might make regarding the number.
Staropoli pushed for more collaboration between the FBI and the Secret Service, insisting on the need to remove problematic leaders. He acknowledged, however, that many capable individuals within both agencies could potentially fill those roles.
Ingraham prompted Starpoli to consider whether any meaningful investigation would arise from Comey’s posts, given the current climate. Starpoli expressed doubts, reflecting on how differently things were handled during his Service, where agents would demonstrate vigilance over any concerning remarks regarding the president.
He insisted that there should be an inquiry into Comey’s actions, noting that the seriousness of the investigation would depend on who was assigned to it.
In response to the controversy, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the department was aware of the situation and was in contact with the Secret Service, offering necessary assistance.
Meanwhile, Kristi Noem, head of the Department of Homeland Security, stated that her agency and the Secret Service were investigating any potential threats.
The Secret Service reiterated its commitment to addressing any perceived risks, highlighting their awareness of the rhetoric circulating in social media, including the comments from the former FBI director.
