Stabbing Incident at Torrance School
A former student of a private school in Torrance, California, is now in custody following an incident where he allegedly stabbed three faculty members, attempted to stab a fourth, and threatened to detonate a bomb during his arrest, according to police reports.
The former student attacked staff at the Swiss Learning Center, a special education school for grades K-12, which prompted a significant response from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and its bomb squad on Monday.
Officers were alerted to the stabbing at the school located on Amapola Court around 8:15 a.m. local time, as indicated by a statement from the Torrance Police Department.
Police confirmed that the suspect entered the campus, stabbed three individuals, and then fled the scene. Two of the victims were taken to Harbor General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, while the third was treated at the scene.
Authorities added that the suspect also attempted to stab a fourth individual before escaping. Officers later located him, and he was arrested without further incidents.
Moreover, the suspect claimed he had placed two pipe bombs near the intersection of 208th Street and Amapola Avenue. This assertion led to the deployment of the bomb squad to assess the situation thoroughly.
Due to safety concerns, Torrance Police issued warnings advising the public to avoid the area around 208th Street and Amapola Avenue while the situation was being secured.
The Swiss Learning Center was put on lockdown as emergency services responded, and nearby streets were temporarily closed for safety reasons. Although the investigation into the bomb threat is ongoing, authorities have confirmed that no explosives were identified.
As of now, no details regarding the suspect’s identity or potential motives have been revealed, and law enforcement continues to investigate the matter. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
