Operation Showdown Leads to Major Arrests in Fort Worth

A significant law enforcement operation in Fort Worth, Texas, resulted in the arrest of seventeen individuals, including suspected members of the Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang, after two months of intense investigation.

This initiative, named “Operation Showdown,” involved collaboration among local, state, and federal agencies. The aim was to combat violent crime in the Fort Worth area.

“Our goal was to cut down on violent crime,” stated Nancy Larson, a U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas. “The removal of 76 firearms and drug traffickers will leave a lasting effect on the city,” she noted, adding that this would likely reduce crime rates as these individuals are no longer distributing their illegal items.

A total of 56 people have now been charged with federal drug offenses, including trafficking significant amounts of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl. All have also faced charges related to illegal firearms.

According to a tweet from a local agency, “A joint federal and local operation has led to the arrest of 76 individuals, many with criminal backgrounds, including suspected TDA members.” The operation also resulted in the seizure of 287 firearms and a potentially deadly amount of fentanyl, enough for over 240,000 doses.

Larson mentioned that many of those arrested had violent histories, stating, “We suspect ties to Tren de Aragua, a transnational criminal group based in Venezuela.” This is concerning, especially given the nature of their activities.

The operation successfully confiscated 287 illegal firearms, including 147 conversion devices that change semi-automatic firearms to fully automatic, as well as nearly 50 pounds of illegal drugs. Notably, three firearms linked to separate murders were also recovered.

“The level of contraband recovered shows a pressing need for safer community spaces where families can gather without fear,” Larson added.

Additionally, Larson indicated that identified illegal immigrants would be referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for further action.
