Florida Family Arrested for Alleged Child Abuse

Four members of a Florida family have been arrested following accusations of severe abuse against nine children, including those in foster care. Reports indicate that some children were subjected to physical violence, confined in cages, and deprived of proper education.

The investigation began when one child was discovered with an electric stun gun at a church camp in Branford, prompting police to look into the family’s treatment of the children living with Brian and Jill Griff, who reside near Fort White.

Witness accounts revealed troubling punishments allegedly administered by the mother. For instance, children reported that they were made to lie under a sheet of plywood while she pushed down on it, causing pain. Additionally, they stated that they were often forced to perform chores while their five biological siblings enjoyed leisure activities like watching television, despite the fact that the children ranged in age from 7 to 16.

The investigation uncovered disturbing conditions, including instances of being trapped under bunk beds with plywood secured with screws and being beaten with canes. Moreover, children reported being sprayed with vinegar, receiving non-prescription medications, and lacking proper schooling. Some even struggled with basic literacy and did not know their own birthdates.

Griffs, along with their adult children, Dylan and Liberty, were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. They are currently held at the Columbia County Jail, each with a bond set at $500,000.

According to authorities, the children were adopted from Arizona before the family relocated to Florida. Local residents expressed disbelief, describing the area as peaceful and quiet, with one saying they would never have suspected such actions could occur in their community.
