Four Charged in Bronx Shooting Incident
In a shooting incident on Saturday night, four individuals, including two teenagers, face murder charges. The shooting resulted in one fatality, and a 17-year-old girl is currently fighting for her life.
Prosecutors announced that Robert Royal, 25, and Daeven Reyes, 20, were arrested on Monday at Bronx Crown Court. They have been charged with attempted murder, gang assault, and weapon possession, but were released on bail shortly thereafter.
Additionally, 17-year-old Messiah Higgy and 16-year-old Naisai Wigfall also face murder charges related to the same incident, which prosecutors describe as senseless. Their cases will be sent to the youth section of adult court.
All four are accused of opening fire at a basketball tournament in Huffen Park around 7:30 PM, killing 32-year-old Jay Sil Banks and injuring four others, including Ansona Campbell, 17, who was visiting from Connecticut with family.
Campbell’s mother, Jennifer Talbott, received the devastating news shortly after her graduation from the International University of the Hearts and Bible.
The doctor reportedly shared that they were preparing to say goodbye to her.
Currently, information regarding Campbell’s condition remains unavailable as of Tuesday.
Police noted that Royal had been injured in separate shootings the previous month and has an ongoing case related to assaulting police officers. He also has a sealed gun possession charge from last year.
In an interview, Royal’s mother, Matty Loffy, 50, claimed her son was wrongfully accused of murder and attempted gun possession in a previous case. She described the chaotic scene during the shooting, mentioning that amid the chaos, police apprehended her son based on mistaken identity.
She expressed frustration over the circumstances, stating her son does not own a gun and that he was simply at home during the incident.
“They came in and locked him up,” she said, voicing her exhaustion with ongoing police actions.
