Fires continue to burn across Southern California, forcing residents to evacuate. As of noon Thursday, the fire had burned more than 27,000 acres, according to Cal Fire. At least five deaths have been reported and at least 130,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes, authorities said.
Photos and videos tell stories of devastation and loss as homes and businesses burn and thousands of people are forced to leave their communities. The Palisades Fire, caused by strong Santa Ana winds, broke out in the Santa Monica Mountains late Tuesday morning and quickly engulfed 200 acres within an hour, reaching nearly 3,000 acres by sunset. The Red Cross said it was immediately deploying hundreds of American workers to help Southern Californians evacuate the area and was mobilizing “hundreds more” to assist victims.
