Democrats are expected to hold onto Maryland's Senate seat, an overwhelmingly blue state, in a highly competitive and expensive race that has garnered much national attention.
The Fox News Decision Desk predicted Tuesday that Democratic Senate candidate and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks will defeat two-term Republican former Gov. Larry Hogan.
Allbrooks is expected to succeed Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, who is retiring this year after nearly 20 years in the Senate and 60 years as a state representative and then a federal representative.
Mr. Allsbrooks, a former prosecutor and ally of Vice President Kamala Harris, will make history as the state's first black senator in Maryland, where approximately one-third of the state's population is black. is expected.

Hogan's late entry into the race in February comes as Republicans enjoy an advantage in the Senate race and Democrats seek to protect their fragile 51-49 Senate majority, which has so far been a safe haven. It created an unexpected headache for Democrats in a state that had been considered. Mr. Hogan left the Governor's Office in early 2023 with very positive support and goodwill.

Hogan, a prominent Republican critic of former President Donald Trump and a 2024 presidential candidate, is seeking support from Maryland's independent voters and some disaffected Democrats in a cross-party campaign. He worked hard to emphasize his ability to act.
The race was fierce, with millions of dollars spent by both sides, party committees and outside groups.
