Franklin Graham Criticizes Leftists for Prayer Comments After School Shooting

Pastor Franklin Graham has expressed strong disapproval of leftist critiques directed at those who sought prayers following a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He shared his thoughts in a social media post on Friday, asserting that their arguments do not undermine the significance of prayer.

In his statement, he addressed the Democratic mayor of Minneapolis and other socialist critics, declaring, “Your words will not change or diminish the power of prayer.” He acknowledged that while asking for prayers doesn’t prevent misfortune or eliminate emergencies, it provides a means to communicate with God and present our needs. Graham emphasized that God is attentive and able to intervene in times of crisis.

He referenced a biblical passage from Hebrews 4:16, highlighting the ability to approach God with confidence for help in difficult times. Graham noted, “This is a remarkable gift.” He drew parallels to Jesus’s passionate prayers during his crucifixion, asserting that God can offer solace and peace to the families of the victims.

He remarked, “The current era is marked by true evil, as represented by the devil who seeks to sow chaos and destruction, as seen in this shooting.” He concluded by reaffirming his belief in the importance of prayer and expressed hope that Mayor Frey might come to recognize the significance of prayer in one’s life.

In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom, alongside other Democratic figures, also mocked the gesture of prayer after the incident, remarking, “These kids were literally praying when they were shot.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey faced backlash for his comments aimed at those who prayed following the shooting, which echoed similar sentiments to Newsom’s. He noted, “I shouldn’t frame this as just thoughts or prayers now. These kids were literally praying.”

The remarks triggered rapid criticism across social platforms. Media analyst Scott Jennings expressed disbelief over Frey’s remarks, while radio host Dana Roche also voiced concern about the timing of Frey’s comments. Minnesota Bishop Robert Barron denounced Frey’s statement as “completely asinine,” reminding that Catholics do not expect prayer to magically shield them from suffering, referencing that Jesus prayed fervently even while on the cross.

Reports indicate the alleged shooter harbored deep animosity toward Christianity, with sources claiming that the individual transitioned from a male to a female identity at age 17.
