South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s (R) controversial new book faces new hurdles Friday after French government officials questioned her explanation for canceling talks with President Emmanuel Macron did. NBC News reported.
In her book No Going Back, Noem claimed that she canceled a planned meeting with Macron at the last minute because of Macron’s anti-Israel comments.
“While in Paris, I was scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron,” she writes in the book. “But the day before we met, he made comments to the press that seemed very pro-Hamas and anti-Israel. So we decided to cancel.”
Macron’s office told NBC News there is no record of Noem scheduled to meet with the president, and that she was never invited.
A spokesperson for Noem told NBC News that the governor was in Paris for a political conference in November 2023 and was invited to Macron’s private box for the country’s Armistice Day parade. .
The controversy adds to the book’s list of errors, which also includes an anecdote about an improbable meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. There is no record of a meeting with Kim, and Nom said the story should not have been published in the book, but added that it was not a fabricated story.
The anecdote with Kim and a second article about former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley were removed from the book’s release by the publisher after backlash.
The book also came under scrutiny for an article about Noem’s illegal killing of a 14-month-old hunting dog. Noem has repeatedly defended her decision to shoot the dog despite widespread criticism, insisting her act was for the safety of others.
The book’s blunder comes as Noem is considered a finalist to be former President Trump’s running mate. Nomu appeared to have cut short her media appearances and book tour last week because of her backlash, leading political commentators to wonder whether her uproar may have cost her any chance of getting on Trump’s ticket. thinking.
