Cockeysville, Maryland – The prominent Maryland family of alleged CEO killer Luigi Mangione has been shaken to its core over his arrest, but friends and acquaintances of the Mangione family describe them as a “great” family. I am doing it.
Thomas Maronic Jr., a family friend and Maryland radio host, called Mangione's arrest “astounding,” adding that the family is a “deeply respected family.” The Mangione family owns several golf courses and clubs in the state, as well as at least one radio station and other facilities.
“This doesn't seem to have anything to do with them,” Maronic, whose Mangione family owned the radio station, told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday. “They own golf courses, they own WCBMs, they own nursing homes. They can't do any more charity work and be generally respected.”
Maronic said she doesn't remember meeting Mangione in person, but that they may have met by chance “by chance.” He said the family is very “tight-knit,” with family patriarch Nick Mangione Sr. handing over leadership of the family to his son Nick Jr., Luigi's uncle.

A friend of the family, who requested anonymity, said Nick Jr. had been a longtime neighbor for more than a decade. He praised his family in comments to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, calling Nick Sr. “the one who started it all” and recalling giving the youngest member of his family a popsicle.
“They're a great family, except for one person, I guess,” the man said.

Luigi's father, Louie Mangione, owns Hayesfield Country Club in Cockeysville, Maryland, and the family lives on the property. The club and nearby upscale shopping center are the heart of the town.
Because of his family's wealth, Luigi was able to attend the Gilman School in Baltimore, a private K-12 school where annual tuition costs approximately $40,000. He graduated as valedictorian in 2016.

Both the former neighbor and Maronic said they had no knowledge of the Mangiones having any health problems or having their insurance claims denied. However, Luigi himself had suffered from a back injury and associated chronic pain in recent years. It is unclear whether he or his family struggled with insurance to cover the treatment.
Who is Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of United Healthcare CEO?
Regarding the insurance issue, Maronic said, “I haven't heard anything about it, but you would be really surprised because the family had a lot of resources — excuse me, a lot of resources.” “Especially those who work in health care or own nursing homes. So this wouldn't have caused them to have a hard time paying their bills.”

The Mangione family released a statement saying they were “devastated” by Luigi's arrest. Maryland State Representative Nino Mangione, Luigi's cousin, echoed similar sentiments in his own statement.

“Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the reports regarding Luigi Mangione,” the Republican lawmaker said in a statement. “We only know what we read in the media. Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi's arrest. Our prayers go out to Brian Thompson's family and for everyone involved. We ask people to pray for us. We are devastated by this news.”
