From Supporting BLM and Kamala to Criticizing ICE, Super Bowl 60 Star Bad Bunny's Record as a Left-Wing Activist: 'F**K TRUMP'

As fans gear up for NFL Super Bowl LX this Sunday, there’s a palpable concern over the left-leaning political moves tied to this year’s event, especially spotlighting halftime performer Bad Bunny, known for his political advocacy.

Recently, during the Grammy Awards, the Puerto Rican artist used his platform to voice opposition to U.S. immigration enforcement, making headlines while accepting the Best Music Urbana Album award.

Opposition to ICE and Immigration Laws

“Before I express my gratitude, I need to say we must abolish ICE,” the artist—real name Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio—declared, drawing cheers from the liberal audience in attendance.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first instance of Bad Bunny’s critique of U.S. immigration policy; he even opted out of U.S. performances during his 2025 concert tour, citing concerns over ICE’s presence. He mentioned the situation in an interview, emphasizing his desire for a safe environment for his fans.

Later that evening, he dedicated his Grammy award to “all those forced to abandon their homeland to chase their dreams.”

The rapper also expressed his stance through his music, promoting open borders. In his video for “Nueva Yor,” he waved a Puerto Rican flag while referencing immigrants’ vital role in America’s identity.

Moreover, he criticized ICE on social media last June, posting about their actions against undocumented individuals in Puerto Rico.

Support for Democratic Candidates

Bad Bunny voiced his support for Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle and previously permitted Joe Biden to use his music during campaign events, which highlights his ongoing political affiliations.

Backing Black Lives Matter

Reflecting on the 2020 election, he openly declared his solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, expressing discontent with former President Trump and voicing concern over racial injustice.

Defending Spanish Language Use

After being chosen for the Super Bowl halftime show in October, Bad Bunny provocatively suggested that Americans should “learn Spanish,” asserting that he has no intention of performing in English.

However, as the Super Bowl approached, he somewhat softened that stance, saying fans could choose to learn to dance instead of the language.

NFL Justifies Bad Bunny’s Selection

Despite his contentious remarks and history, the NFL has staunchly defended their choice of Bad Bunny as the halftime headliner, suggesting his presence could symbolize unity among fans. They have rebuffed any calls to replace him, even as concerns have been raised regarding his political statements.

Many fans have reacted negatively, particularly regarding his unorthodox image and the implications of having him headline the show.

Alternative Halftime Show from Turning Point USA

In response, the youth group Turning Point USA is organizing an alternative halftime event featuring Kid Rock and Lee Brice, aiming for a more traditional celebration of American values and culture.

Turning Point USA described their “All-American Halftime Show” as an occasion meant to honor freedom and faith in American culture.
