Fugitive Arrested After Six Years on the Run

A woman wanted in connection with a double shooting was captured in Florida on Wednesday. This happened just hours after the FBI placed her on its “10 Most Wanted Fugitives” list and announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her arrest.

Kashawn Nicola Roper, 50, allegedly shot into a vehicle in Missouri back in August 2020, causing the death of one woman.

“Kashawn Roper has been evading authorities for nearly six years,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “After we added her to our wanted list, tips started coming in, and law enforcement was able to apprehend her.”

Following her addition to the FBI’s list, the agency received several tips from Florida the next morning. Witnesses reported seeing someone resembling Roper hurriedly packing belongings into a car.

Using details about the vehicle, authorities swiftly executed a traffic stop, leading to her arrest.

Roper is currently facing multiple charges in Missouri, including second-degree murder and armed criminal action, as well as a federal charge of unlawfully fleeing prosecution.

Patel noted that the FBI has captured eight of its top fugitives in just over a year, which is more than double the number apprehended in the previous four years combined.

“This was an exceptional effort by the FBI in Kansas City and Jacksonville, along with our local partners in Florida and Missouri,” Patel added.
