Future Forward, the most powerful Democratic super PAC, plans to launch a $50 million multi-state ad campaign ahead of next month’s Democratic National Convention to promote Vice President Harris as the party’s front-runner, the Associated Press reported. report.
“We’re ready to go all out to make sure voters know Kamala Harris will be the president who will fight for them,” said Chauncey McLean, the group’s president.
The ad campaign will run over the next two weeks ahead of the Democratic National Convention, which is scheduled to begin on August 19th.
About half of the group’s ad investment will be targeted at low-information voters watching the Olympics, according to the Associated Press.
The $50 million campaign is in addition to a $250 million digital and TV advertising investment already scheduled to begin in September, the group said.
The financial contribution came just days after Harris announced her campaign after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her. In the hours and days after her announcement, Harris raised a record number of donations, and excitement over her candidacy energized Democrats who had worried Biden might not be able to beat former President Trump this fall.
Still, there are concerns that Republicans have a big advertising advantage, the Associated Press noted.
The ads, which begin rolling out Sunday, will feature positive biographical messages about Harris, describing her as a district attorney who “protected children from sex predators” and an attorney general who “stood up to big banks to protect homeowners.” She will also be cited as someone who “fought for women’s right to make their own health care decisions” as a senator and who “fought to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month” as vice president. The Washington Post reported.
The Harris campaign released its first video on Thursday, focusing on rights and freedoms. Set to the song “Freedom” by Beyonce, Harris asks voters what kind of country they want to live in.
