Gavin Newsom fumes at Trump shutting down federal funds to Planned Parenthood in California: ‘This is just plain cruel’

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom responded angrily to President Donald Trump shutting down federal funds spent on abortions provided by Planned Parenthood.

The abortion provider said in the release that nine of its affiliates were notified Monday evening that the Trump administration would temporarily withhold Title X funds for possible violations of Trump's executive order.

“This morning I woke up to the Trump administration, which freezes all of CA's Title X funds.”

Newsom posted a statement on social media Condemnation order.

“This morning I woke up to the Trump administration, which freezes all of CA's Title X funds,” he wrote. “It's a Republican founding program. All people Richard Nixon founded it in 1970. It's just cruel.”

He said Title X funding was paid for “basic reproductive care,” including birth control, cancer screening and STD testing.

Trump signature The January executive order ended the “use of federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.” Parent-child relationships among planned parents were suspected of violating Trump's ban on diversity, equity and inclusion policies and providing abortion services to illegal foreigners.

Alexis McGill, CEO and President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund excorified The White House argued that behavior leads to worsening women's health.

“President Trump and Elon Musk have pushed their dangerous political agenda, stripped people of health care access from around the country and have not given them a second thought about the devastation they are causing,” McGill said.

“We know what will happen if health care providers can't use Title X funds. People across the country suffer, cancer is not detected, access to birth control is drastically reduced, and the country's STI crisis is exacerbated,” she argued.
