Gavin Newsom ridiculed on a billboard in Times Square, New York City

Gavin Newsom’s Billboard Comparison to NFL’s Jets

In a surprising move, a billboard was unveiled in New York City’s famous Times Square comparing California Governor Gavin Newsom to the struggling New York Jets. This ad, released by the California Federation of Commerce and Industry ahead of the Super Bowl, boldly claims that Newsom is “worse than the Jets.”

For context, the Jets concluded their season with an unfortunate record of just three wins against fourteen losses.

The billboard further states, “He is number one on high taxes and homelessness.”

Tom Manzo, who founded a trade group of business leaders, commented, “Before he tries to quarterback national politics, Gavin Newsom should take a hard look at how his strategy worked in California.” He also noted that just as New Yorkers feel about the Jets, Californians had higher expectations for Governor Newsom.

Meanwhile, scrutiny on California’s economy has intensified as Newsom embarks on a promotional tour for his upcoming autobiography. This book, titled Young Man in a Hurry, set to release on February 24, recounts his experiences growing up but has faced criticism for allegedly downplaying his privilege and connections.

Experts suggest Newsom may be gearing up for a presidential run in 2028 as the media continues to spotlight leaders from the largest states.

Compounding the challenges for Newsom, homelessness in California has increased by more than 3% over the last year. Recent data indicates that over 187,000 individuals are either living on the streets or in shelters statewide.

On another front, California remains one of the highest-taxed states in the U.S., adding fuel to ongoing debates. Recently, Newsom opposed a proposed billionaire wealth tax, with critics arguing that current tax policies are driving wealthy entrepreneurs and investors out of the state.
