Gov. Gavin Newsom is already making plans to push back against President-elect Donald Trump's policies that derail the current administration's green energy push.

Newsom said in a statement Monday that he intends to offer similar EV rebates to Californians if President Trump strips them of their credits.

“Consumers continue to prove skeptics wrong. Zero-emission vehicles are here to stay,” Newsom said in a statement.
“If the Trump Administration eliminates federal tax credits, we will step in and strengthen California's commitment to clean air and green jobs. We will not backtrack on our clean transportation future. is going to make it more affordable for people. “People need to drive cars that don't pollute the environment,'' the governor added.

The Golden State's EV credits will be funded by the resumption of the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program, the state's electric vehicle incentive program that ended in November 2023, according to a press release from the governor's office.

But Newsom has a long history of pushing back against Trump's policies, filing more than 100 lawsuits against the president-elect during his first administration alone.
