Gaza Humanitarian Foundation supported by the US starts trial program for aid reservations

New Aid Initiative by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US aid organization, reports the delivery of over 2 million aid boxes to Gaza, supplying meals for approximately 125 million individuals. They’ve recently unveiled a pilot program enabling families to reserve aid parcels ahead of time.

According to GHF, this initiative aims to help families secure assistance as aid continues to reach Gaza, making the collection process more dignified and orderly. The foundation highlighted that, under existing distribution models, young men often dominate the lines, making it difficult for women, children, and vulnerable individuals to access needed resources.

“This marks a significant advancement,” remarked John Ackley, GHF’s executive director. “It illustrates that our model is effective and aligns with our commitment to adapt to community needs. It also responds to calls for innovation in delivering humanitarian assistance to those in greatest need in Gaza.”

Overview of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation

The new voluntary program is set to start this Sunday in a district in Saudi Arabia, with 350 participants, and is expected to grow to encompass additional distribution sites in upcoming weeks. GHF added that the initiative includes women-only distribution days and community-based methods, reflecting community requests and experiences from humanitarian organizations worldwide.

Under this new framework, trained local staff will interact with beneficiaries. Those choosing to participate will have their identification processed with photos and unique numbers assigned. GHF mentions that participants can create online profiles to submit information about their households.

Aid will be allocated on a specific day for each family, which should alleviate the stress of rushing for assistance. Ackley noted, “We’ve always intended to offer a way for families to book their aid in advance. Until now, local conditions have hindered our ability to implement this.” However, he expressed pride in adapting to community requests and improving the reliability of aid distribution.

For those not wanting to participate in the reservation system, aid will still be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and GHF assured that all personal data will be securely stored and not shared. The new system will also help facilitate communication with households regarding distribution schedules and urgent updates.

Since its inception on May 27, GHF has partnered with local aid workers to deliver nearly 125 million meals to those in need in Gaza.

Last month, while in Scotland, Donald Trump emphasized the ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza and the importance of safe aid delivery into the region. The US recently contributed $60 million, which Trump noted has prompted other nations to increase their support.

At least $30 million of US aid funneled through the GHF aims to ensure there’s no diversion of resources. GHF spokesman Chapin Fay reiterated their commitment to ensuring aid directly reaches those who need it most, without any detours.
