General Motors plant delays shift start time so employees can watch Lions in NFC Championship

The Detroit Lions will be playing in their first NFC title game since 1992 and have a chance to play in their first Super Bowl.

As the team heads to San Francisco for a big game Sunday against the top-seeded 49ers, a Detroit-based company is hosting employees, many of whom are die-hard Lions fans. There is. Match.

A General Motors factory near Flint, Michigan, told employees it would delay production by an hour on Sunday so employees could watch a playoff game.

A GM employee posted on Lyons' Reddit page a screenshot of an email they received from the company's automated system that informs employees whether shifts have been added or canceled.

“At Flint Assembly, we will not be starting normal production early this Sunday, January 28th on the third shift… We recognize this is a rare and unique opportunity to justify this temporary schedule adjustment so that our employees can have fun and enjoy themselves by playing the game and getting to work on time.'' of detroit free press He noted that the Flint plant is the only plant in Michigan running a third shift on Sundays.

“Everywhere you go there's Lions gear and everyone's really excited,” WUAW Local 598 Shop President Eric Welter said earlier this week. “These are unprecedented times in Michigan, and we expect many employers to do everything they can to help. Perhaps we were premature, but I think everyone else will do something to address this situation.”

The third shift typically begins at 10 p.m. on Sunday and employs approximately 1,500 employees.
