George Conway predicts Trump will ‘lose big’ in Supreme Court immunity case

Conservative lawyer George Conway said Friday that he believes former President Trump will suffer a “big defeat” in the presidential immunity case currently before the Supreme Court.

Conway Participated CNN’s Jim Acosta talks about the nation’s highest court’s long-awaited decision. The justices are scheduled to rule on the case by the end of June, but the justices have been battling their own series of controversies, raising concerns about what they might rule.

Acosta asked Conway whether she had confidence in the justices amid recent criticism and when she expected the Supreme Court to rule on Trump’s case.

“I have confidence in the court on this case. I think Donald Trump will lose. I think he will lose badly,” Conway responded. “There may be some tweaks to the ruling, there may be some steps added to the trial, but at the end of the day, I don’t think he’s going to prevail.”

The Supreme Court is considering whether a former president can be criminally prosecuted for acts conducted in the course of official duties, which Trump’s team argues is exactly what he was doing on January 6, 2021.

The Supreme Court’s decision could affect the recent convictions in the hush money case as well as whether the other three prosecutions move forward.

Depending on the Supreme Court’s decision, special counsel Jack Smith could move forward with the case and do the opposite of what Trump and his team want — delay the case until after the election.

Conway argues that the trial of the case could actually backfire for the former president, as it could begin around mid-September and disrupt a crucial period in the presidential campaign.

“In terms of the delay, I wish they had never taken this case. I wish they would have ruled sooner, but I don’t actually believe there’s some massive conspiracy or effort on the part of some judges to delay this case to help Mr. Trump,” Conway said.

Conway said this was one of the most important decisions the Supreme Court has made “in a long time” and that Washington was eagerly awaiting the decision, which would likely not come until the end of the year.

“It’s going to take until the end of June. It always has,” he said.
