Cold Case Arrest in Georgia
A man from Georgia has been taken into custody regarding a cold case that dates back over 40 years to the rape and murder of a young woman. This case has long remained unresolved, until now.
Freddie Lee Granger Jr., 68, faces several serious charges including rape, malice murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of felony murder linked to the death of Sandra Kay Davis. This information comes from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Sandra Kay Davis was only 22 when her body was found on September 1, 1984, near a Collock Street home in Waycross, Georgia. Officials determined she had been strangled.
Following the discovery, local authorities reached out to the GBI for assistance in the case, which has seen little progress until recent advances in technology. After years of investigation that seemed to stall, new DNA evidence has now connected Granger to the murder.
Granger was located and arrested on March 31, with details shared by the GBI. He has since been booked into the Ware County Jail.
Several agencies, including the Waycross Police Department and the Ware County Sheriff’s Office, collaborated with the GBI Cold Case Unit in both the investigation and the arrest of Granger.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information to reach out to the GBI Regional Bureau of Investigation.
