Giants aware of not overwhelming Abdul Carter in highly anticipated debut

Shane Bowen on Abdul Carter’s NFL Potential

Randover, Maryland – Shane Bowen, the second-year defensive coordinator for the Giants, has closely followed Abdul Carter’s college career in Pennsylvania, gaining insights into his potential in the NFL.

Despite having worked with Carter through the spring and summer, Bowen feels there’s still plenty to learn from watching him live.

“I think he’s got a real edge,” Bowen remarked. “He’s putting in the effort to improve, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do this season.” His enthusiasm was clear after observing Carter perform last Sunday.

There’s a buzz among the Giants as they gear up to watch Carter in his debut. However, he faces a special challenge as a rookie in 2024, especially with quarterback Jayden Daniels proving to be one of the most slippery players to come into the league lately.

Bowen is aware that Carter’s aggressive play style could present vulnerabilities, leading to opportunities for big plays against their defense. He recognizes the potential in Carter, noting it’s something he hasn’t witnessed much before.

“We’ve got to tread carefully,” Bowen added. “The excitement will be palpable. They’ll have a lot of energy going into Game 1, so we need to ensure we don’t overload him with too much.” A thoughtful approach seems essential.

Russell Wilson Approaches Milestone

When Russell Wilson steps onto the field, he’ll become the 16th quarterback in NFL history to start 200 games. He already boasts 158 starts with the Seahawks, 11 with the Steelers, and 30 from a season with the Broncos.

“Yeah, reaching 200 career starts—regular season and playoffs—is truly a blessing,” remarked Wilson. He emphasized the importance of discipline, routine, and staying committed to his goals.

The last quarterback to hit the 200-game milestone in a season opener was Eli Manning back in 2017.

A Veteran-Heavy Teams

The Commanders, on their part, have made a concerted effort to bolster their roster by incorporating several experienced players. With names like Bobby Wagner (35), Von Miller (36), and Deebo Samuel (29) among others, they currently hold the title of the oldest team in the league, with more than 25 players over the age of 29.

The Giants’ Journey to Baltimore

On Saturday, the Giants took a brief flight from Newark International Airport to Baltimore for their upcoming game. Typically, they’d travel by train, but with Amtrak offering fewer charter options these days, they opted for air travel.

Practice Squad Moves

In preparation for Sunday’s matchup, the Giants have activated defensive lineman Elijah Garcia from their practice squad.
