The Daniel Jones era is officially over.
The New York Giants announced Friday morning that they have released their former starting quarterback at his request.
“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if I would like to release him, and we mutually agreed that it was in the best interest of him and the team,” president John Mara said in a statement.
“Daniel is a great representative of our organization and is first class in every way. His response to this situation yesterday exemplified just that. We are all disappointed in the way things have turned out. We hold Daniel in high esteem and are indebted to him. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. ”
Jones' tenure in New York was a tumultuous time with more lows than highs. Head coach Brian Daboll announced this week that third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito will take his place, and Jones, in his sixth season with the team, is reportedly expected to be No. 4 on the depth chart.
