A young woman from Pennsylvania has died after being swept over a waterfall in Glacier National Park, park officials said.
According to authorities, the 26-year-old man fell into the water near St. Mary Falls around 5:20 p.m. Sunday. The falls, located in Glacier County, Montana, are about 35 feet high.
After falling, the woman was swept over the waterfall and was trapped underwater for several minutes.
A passerby at the park quickly came to the woman’s aid and pulled her from the water before emergency services arrived. The passerby also performed CPR on the woman before park rangers and emergency personnel took over.

Drowning and falls are the leading causes of death in Glacier National Park. Last year, a 28-year-old Kansas woman died after falling into a creek inside the park.
In 2017, a visitor taking photos fell into a stream in the park and was swept off a steep cliff. The 26-year-old man was pronounced dead after falling about 100 feet.
