Touching Story of an 81-Year-Old Delivery Driver

Erin Howell noticed an 81-year-old delivery driver, Don Johnson, struggling to carry a family’s lost suitcase up a steep flight of stairs. Curious, she asked him what he was doing.

Don shared that, at his age, delivering lost luggage for an airline is the only job he could find. He really needs the money.

According to Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, Don has been married to his wife, Josephine, for 57 years. Unfortunately, Josephine is battling cancer, which has brought significant expenses for treatments and prescriptions. For the last three years, Don has driven around North Texas helping families recover their lost luggage to help pay for her care.

Don then returns home to the love of his life, someone he deeply knows—the way she takes her coffee, how she prefers to sleep, what’s on her mind before she says a word.

“This is a man who made a promise in his 20s and is still keeping it in his 80s,” Glenn remarks.

Erin decided to post doorbell footage of Don online and initiated a GoFundMe campaign for him and Josephine, which quickly gained traction.

“When not busy with anger or hatred, America often shows its kindness. Thousands of strangers stepped up, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars. Messages of support and prayers flooded in,” Glenn explains.

A local TV crew interviewed Don, who expressed hope that he might be able to stop working and care for Josephine full-time. However, things took a turn when the GoFundMe campaign was unexpectedly shut down.

But before its shutdown, Josephine spoke with a TV crew, and her focus was not on the money, but rather on the support from strangers who were praying for her. “I can face it,” she said.

Glenn noted that she described a “joyful feeling,” highlighting that it wasn’t merely about receiving financial help, but realizing she was not alone in this fight.
