Congress is considering a bill that would force the Chinese company that owns TikTok to leave the app or face a ban on TikTok in the United States.
The app itself probably changed an entire generation for the worse, but Glenn Beck isn’t a fan of the bill.
After going over the bill line by line with bill co-sponsor Chip Roy and bill opponent Thomas Massey, Glenn says, “There are some things that are concerning to me.”
Part of the bill is called the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Control Applications Act,” which sounds like the face value, but its scope goes far beyond apps.
“Individual websites can also be seized,” Glenn says, noting that the term “foreign enemy” is a bit vague.
“We are accused of being controlled by Russia and Israel,” Glenn says.
Stu agrees, pointing out that where the bill seeks to define a “foreign enemy,” the authors include not just Chinese government-owned enterprises, i.e., Chinese foreigners reporting to the Chinese Communist Party, but “controlled” entities. According to the bill, U.S. citizens who are “determined by the President to be a present threat to the national security of the United States” may violate the bill.
“Last year, we heard that ‘voter deniers are a threat to democracy.’ Vaccine deniers, Christian nationalists, climate change deniers, these are all threats to national security,” Glenn explained. do.
Proponents of the bill say it will never be used against Americans, but Glenn isn’t so sure about that.
“This is all they said about the Patriot Act. It will never be used against you,” Glenn said, adding, “All they have to do is change the definition of extremist.” “And they can definitely turn this on you,” he added.
