Beck Honors Kirk at North Dakota Event
In an emotional gathering, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, had invited Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, to accompany him on his fall campus tour prior to his tragic assassination. Keeping a promise made to his late friend, Beck took to the stage alone on Thursday at the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center, located on the University of North Dakota campus in Grand Forks.
During his speech, Beck touched on the themes of American greatness and the moral complexities woven into its history. Drawing from artifacts in his expansive collection—one he claims rivals only the National Archives and the Library of Congress—he shared both professional and personal reflections.
In a candid moment, Beck revealed that before September 10, he had intended to inform Kirk that upon his retirement, he would pass his national radio platform to him. “I wanted to encourage Charlie,” Beck expressed, noting his admiration for Kirk’s work ethic and achievements.
Beck also reflected on nine significant truths that he believes shape our identities.
1. Question Everything
“Doubt everything,” Beck urged. He emphasized the need for critical thinking, particularly regarding theological matters. Beck believes that God has endowed humans with reasoning and curiosity, encouraging them to seek out answers.
2. Honesty Brings Freedom
Being truthful is vital, Beck maintained. He stated that understanding one’s divine identity can be liberating, alongside the act of confessing one’s sins.
3. Control Your Thoughts
Beck noted that the mind constantly cycles through thoughts, which ultimately define us. He encouraged individuals to take ownership of their thinking, pointing out that the phrase “I am” carries significant weight in shaping self-identity.
4. Choose Your Master
Beck warned that everyone serves something, be it addiction or a higher purpose. He urged attendees to make deliberate choices on who or what to serve.
5. The Power of Forgiveness
Sharing the story of Erica Kirk forgiving her husband’s murderer, Beck highlighted the necessity of forgiveness. He suggested that holding onto anger damages both the individual and relationships.
6. True Discipline Equals Freedom
Drawing from his experiences with media attacks, Beck remarked that living with integrity and owning up to one’s faults can shield one from manipulation.
7. Faith is Realism
Beck described Kirk’s faith not as a fleeting sentiment but rather as a profound, eternal connection. He illustrated this by recalling Kirk’s dedication to doing God’s work.
8. Embrace Gratitude
Against the backdrop of contemporary comfort culture, Beck argued that gratitude is essential—it counterbalances envy and helps in navigating difficulties. He reflected on how Kirk’s community expressed gratitude even amidst tragedy.
9. Community is Vital
Beck concluded with a warning about the dangers of isolation. He asserted that surrounding ourselves with a supportive community is essential for hope and meaningful change.
