GOA Supports James Harden: 'Texas Permits Constitutional Carry'

Following the arrest of James Harden from the Cleveland Cavaliers, various gun advocacy groups highlighted that “Texas’ constitution permits carrying,” suggesting that the government shouldn’t “micromanage” citizens’ lives.

Reports indicate Harden was taken into custody in Houston early Saturday morning, with sources noting he faced “illegal possession of a weapon” charges.

In a related report, it was mentioned that Harden had a handgun in his vehicle; however, it was “in plain sight” and “not holstered.”

The Gun Owners Association commented on Harden’s situation, stating, “Texas has a constitutional right to carry, but James Harden faced arrest because his legally owned firearm was not holstered in his vehicle.”

Furthermore, they remarked, “The government should not micromanage how law-abiding individuals secure their firearms.”

The National Gun Rights Association also expressed concern over arrests made solely due to the presence of a handgun.

According to reports, Texas is among the 29 states that adhere to constitutional carry, allowing individuals 21 and older without a criminal background to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense without needing a permit. Additionally, Texas operates as an open-carry state, which, along with constitutional carry, means that one doesn’t require a permit to carry a handgun openly for self-defense unless there are restrictions on gun possession.
