President Biden has faced criticism from Gold Star families after falsely claiming during Thursday’s CNN presidential debate that he is “the only president this century, this decade, to have had no soldier deaths anywhere in the world.”
“After denying that 13 U.S. soldiers had died in Afghanistan, Biden said at the debate, [Trump] “When he was president, people were still being killed in Afghanistan, and he didn’t do anything about it.”
Darin Huber, a Gold Star recipient and father of Staff Sergeant Darin Taylor Huber, one of 13 U.S. service members killed in action in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, had a strong response to Biden’s debate allegations.
The 31-year-old former president was engaged when he was killed and was on his third deployment to Afghanistan.
Voters reacted to Biden falsely claiming that no soldiers had been killed under his administration.

“We knew sooner or later the Afghanistan issue was going to come up,” Huber said, recalling the debate in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“The shambling, clumsy buffoon in the White House has the audacity to claim that there have been no military deaths under his command.”

The Gold Star father added, “Hearing what he said filled me with anger and absolute disgust and I screamed back at the TV. I was just frustrated. He never called out to our kids, never called them by their names, and to this day I highly doubt he knows their names.”
Kelly Barnett, Taylor’s mother, told Biden, “I just want to say it’s disgraceful that they would use children as pawns. It’s just disgusting.”

“Shame on you for using our children as pawns…”
“It’s disgusting, but it’s about the way we’ve been treated for the last three years. It’s been three years, it’s been three years. And it’s disrespect after disrespect. This is probably topping it all off.”
Huber said the Biden administration sent letters to 13 families of Afghanistan Gold Star recipients a year later.
“A form letter was sent to all 13 families, saying the exact same thing, and it was almost like they copied it all, basically saying we’re sorry your service member died, and that’s it. We never received anything before or since,” Huber added.

Huber has been trying to meet with Biden on behalf of the 13 people who died on Aug. 26, 2021. “I’ve tried many times before, but when I’ve asked Congress to meet with me, I’ve been told he’s a coward,” he said.
“[Biden] “He doesn’t want to do business with us. He knows we’re in his way, but he doesn’t want to do business with us,” Huber said.
