Blakeman Critiques Hochul’s State Address
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman criticized Governor Kathy Hochul’s recent State of the State address, alleging she was mimicking President Trump’s style, even wearing a red cap that said, “Make New York Happy Again – Vote for Blakeman.”
Blakeman, recently sworn in for a second term, is likely running against Hochul in the upcoming November election. He expressed frustration over her remarks, stating that she failed to address her background and instead focused on blaming Washington Republicans and Trump for the state’s challenges, including high taxes and crime.
“She just doesn’t grasp what hardworking families are going through,” he mentioned to reporters. “Addressing issues isn’t about offering free rides; it’s about creating quality jobs and boosting the economy.”
Blakeman noted that Hochul’s criticism of Trump during her address only served to highlight her disconnect from the realities facing citizens. He pointed out that New York ranks as one of the most overtaxed states in the country, emphasizing the negative impact on middle-class households. “There’s a reason so many have left this state under your leadership,” he added.
As the Republican front-runner following Rep. Elise Stefanik’s exit from the race, Blakeman has secured Trump’s backing in his bid to challenge Hochul.
Hochul, who has been in her position since 2021 after Andrew Cuomo’s resignation, delivered a speech focused on criticizing Trump’s immigration policies, while also claiming to have improved the state’s economy and reduced crime rates.
It’s worth noting that no Republican has successfully won the New York gubernatorial race since George Pataki in 2002, making this election particularly significant.
