Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) said President Biden is taking too long to address Iran over its ties to Iranian-backed groups and its attacks on the United States.
“It’s been a long time. If you look at the 160 attacks that have been carried out against American interests, against American forces, since October 7th, what are we waiting for?” Wenstrup said. He said this on “The Hill on NewsNation” on Thursday.
“If you know that behind these militias, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, it’s Iran, they’re funding them, they’re providing training, they’re providing money and weapons,” Wenstrup said. He continued.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned of future actions against Iranian-backed militias attacking U.S. troops. He said “the time has come to take away more capabilities than we have taken in the past” from groups that have attacked the United States.
“While we have not specified what our response will be, we want to hold those responsible for this accountable,” Austin said. “And we are also working to ensure that we continue to disempower them.”
they have many abilities. I have a lot more,” Austin added.
He also said that while the United States still seeks to avoid widespread conflict in the Middle East, Washington will “take whatever action is necessary to protect the United States, our interests, and our people.”
Following the recent launch of Israeli offensives in the Gaza Strip aimed at eliminating the Palestinian militant group Hamas, US forces have faced more than 160 attacks from Iranian-backed groups since October. The fighting and Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 26,000 people, both civilians and Hamas fighters.
“The Hill on NewsNation” airs Monday through Friday at 5 p.m.
