A previously unseen video taken on Jan. 6, 2021, shows then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) saying she takes “accountability” for law enforcement’s lack of preparation when rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol that day.
a House Republican Committee Tweets About X It includes video that appears to show Speaker Pelosi evacuating the Capitol building and having a heated conversation with her chief of staff, Terri McCullough, about how to evacuate.
“Teri, we are responsible. We had no accountability for what was going on there. And we should have,” Pelosi said in the video, which was seen in its original form by Fox News Digital. “This is ridiculous. You’re asking me should we call the Capitol Police when they were already invading? No, should we call the National Guard? Why wasn’t the National Guard there in the first place?”
Pelosi’s aide appeared to respond that she believed Capitol security officers were prepared, but Pelosi added: “They clearly didn’t know. I take responsibility for not making them more prepared.”

Pelosi then appeared to condemn supporters of former President Trump, who ransacked parts of the Capitol building, including her office.
“It’s foolish to get into this situation because they thought these people were going to behave civilized. They thought these people were going to care,” Pelosi said. “What’s missing in terms of anticipation? They give us a piece of paper that says go through a tunnel and don’t walk outside. Is that preparation?”
Asked to comment on the video, a spokesperson for Speaker Pelosi told Fox News Digital that “numerous independent fact-checkers have repeatedly confirmed that Speaker Pelosi did not plot her own assassination on January 6th.”

“As the entire video makes clear, Speaker Pelosi responded immediately to the attack on the Capitol, mobilizing the defense of the Capitol, calling in the National Guard, and regulating continuity of government. This conveniently excerpted and out-of-context footage does not change the fact that the Speaker was not in charge of security at the Capitol on January 6th or any other day of the week,” the spokesperson said. “Three years later, House Republicans are still trying to cover up this deadly insurrection.”
But House Republicans say the video undermines Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s argument that Trump is to blame for the January 6 riot.

“Pelosi’s J6 Select Committee used taxpayer money to pursue false political narratives and use Hollywood producers in their ‘investigation’. Her admission of liability directly contradicts their own rhetoric,” tweeted Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Government Oversight.
