LACONIA, N.H. — North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum spoke to Fox News Digital in New Hampshire on Monday about why voters in the Granite State are so important to the political process that chooses the president.

“The great thing about New Hampshire voters is that they are very sophisticated,” Burgum said at a rally supporting former President Trump. So they're reading a story.

“They're on the ground. They understand the issues. They understand the differences, because everyone has campaigned in both parties for years. They're close to major media markets like Boston. So I understand what's going on.”

Burgum said he and his wife, Katherine, have been traveling around New Hampshire to “coffee shops, retail stores, city halls,” and have seen residents “young and old” be incredibly sophisticated. .

America needs to understand how seriously voters in Iowa and New Hampshire take this process and when to send a signal. It's not because they're influenced by a barrage of mailers or TV ads,” Burgum said. “These are people who have met every candidate, and I respect that.” I have a lot of respect for the voters of Iowa and New Hampshire, and I want to say that they will send a message to the world tomorrow. ”

Burgum, a former Trump campaigner in New Hampshire, ran against Trump in the Republican primary and then dropped out to support Trump. FOX News Digital asked Burgum, who recently announced he would not run for a third term as governor, if he had any aspirations to serve in the Trump administration, perhaps as vice president.

“What the experts say about the Trump administration's Cabinet and personnel choices is great news material, but it's completely irrelevant,” Burgum said. “Our job now as Republicans is to “It's about making sure the president gets the nomination.” ”

That's what everyone should focus on, and of course that's what I should focus on too. “I didn't run for president to be in the Cabinet. I didn't run for president to be part of someone's administration,” Burgum said. I've spent my life in the private sector and I have 100 chances to go back to the private sector. ”

“So, you know, the speculation is interesting, but it's not really relevant at this point. These are all hypotheticals, and that question will probably be answered after President Trump is re-elected next November. we must focus on.” ”
