Government-Funded Lawyers for Illegals, Unchecked Aid for Gaza

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said Monday that he opposes the Senate’s pro-immigration border bill, announced Sunday, which would issue thousands of additional green cards a year “for no apparent reason.” , raised several issues with the bill, including assistance to residents. Gaza does not have any safeguards in place to prevent it from being used for anti-American purposes.

“I have considered the bill, and I do not believe it will solve the border crisis and could make it much worse. I oppose it,” Cotton announced.

“Joe Biden engineered this crisis. He can and should reverse open borders today,” he continued, referring to Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) ), Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and Kyrsten Sinema listed several specific issues with the bill. (I-AZ).

“This bill would give Secretary Mayorkas, for the first time, the right to grant asylum claims (and, by extension, U.S. citizenship) to illegal aliens at the border without review by an immigration court, a major path to rubber-stamp amnesty. He said the measure also codifies catch-and-release as an “alternative to detention” for undocumented immigrants who only say they “intend” to apply for asylum or other protections. emphasized the facts.

He went on to say that the bill, which would grant work permits to asylum seekers “as long as they pass an initial screening by liberal bureaucrats,” actually creates a new magnet for illegal immigration.

“This is going to be a huge magnet for more illegal immigrants,” Cotton said, adding that the bill would “grant 50,000 additional green cards a year for no apparent reason and completely unrelated to border security. “I will,” he added.

The bill also “guarantees new government-funded lawyers for illegal aliens,” and the bill “does not limit Mr. Biden and Mr. Mayorkas’ abuse of immigration parole and will continue to do so.” “This allows for the abuse of illegal immigration and the issuance of work permits to illegal immigrants,” he added. They claim there are “urgent humanitarian reasons” for these people. ”

Cotton also said the bill would provide “humanitarian” aid to Gaza, but lacked adequate safeguards to ensure the funds were not used for “anti-American purposes.”

“Although the bill includes necessary defense measures, particularly replenishing ammunition stockpiles, these parts cannot outweigh the problems with the bill,” Cotton said.

The senator added: “Congress should take these individual and immediate steps to rebuild our military and defense industry.”

He is not the only Republican senator to publicly voice opposition to the bill. Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), became the first member of the Senate Republican leadership to publicly voice his opposition Monday morning.

“I cannot support a bill that does not secure our borders, provides tax-funded lawyers for illegal immigrants, and provides billions of dollars to radical open border groups. I say no,” he said. Told:

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) also vowed that if the bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival.
