Governor Beshear Addresses Rumors about Senator McConnell’s Health

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear revealed this week that he received two calls from an unnamed agency indicating that Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had died while in the hospital.

In a recent interview that was uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, Beshear, a Democrat, opted not to disclose which agency contacted him or the timing of those calls.

According to Beshear, who has been serving as governor since December 2019, he received the information from “different authorities, not state officials” suggesting that McConnell had passed away.

Fox News Digital has reached out to both Beshear and McConnell’s offices for comments on this matter.

Senator McConnell’s Health Status Under Scrutiny

Following nearly a month of hospitalization, McConnell’s office made a statement on July 12, detailing that he had been treated for a fall that occurred in June. A photo of him alongside his wife in a hospital bed was also made public.

Prior to this announcement, there was considerable speculation regarding McConnell’s health, as his office had not provided details about his extended hospital stay.

Audio from a 911 call on June 14 indicated that McConnell was “unconscious” and may have experienced a heart attack.

A Call for Transparency

“Doctors confirmed that I do not have any broken bones or a concussion,” McConnell stated over the weekend. “I didn’t have a heart attack or stroke. No tumors or bleeding.” This was his first statement following the previous tumult regarding his condition.

Two days ahead of McConnell’s announcement, Beshear took to social media, urging for greater transparency from McConnell. Beshear commented, “I have publicly and privately appealed to the previous administration to address the public’s concerns about the former president’s health,” seemingly referring to former President Joe Biden. He further urged McConnell to provide his constituents with timely updates on his health status.

Beshear concluded his message by encouraging McConnell to “stop making crazy speculations” and simply share what’s going on with his health.

On July 8, Beshear also sent a letter to the 84-year-old senator, requesting that he keep Kentuckians informed about his health condition.

McConnell’s doctors later indicated that he had “developed pneumonia” early during his hospital stay but responded well to antibiotic treatment.

While McConnell has expressed intentions to return to the Senate, no specific timeline for his return has been provided by his office.
