Governor JB Pritzker: President Donald Trump intends to carry out an 'invasion' of Chicago

Trump’s Potential National Guard Deployment in Chicago Sparks Controversy

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has expressed concern over President Donald Trump’s comments about potentially sending the National Guard to Chicago, describing it as a “military invasion.” In a recent CBS News interview, Pritzker stated, “It’s evident they are planning this in secret. If they proceed, it constitutes an invasion by the U.S. military.” This segment aired on CBS Evening News on Friday, with further discussions set for Sunday on “Face the Nation.”

Trump is reportedly contemplating this move to address crime, coinciding with earlier deployments of troops to Washington, D.C. However, Pritzker urges caution, suggesting there are ulterior motives behind Trump’s actions. “People need to realize that there’s more at play here than just crime. It feels like an attack on Americans by the president,” he remarked.

Pritzker continued to question Trump’s intentions, suggesting that there might be a political strategy aimed at influencing future elections. “It’s worrying to think he might wish to suspend the elections in 2026 or exert more control over them. If he’s allowed to act in this way, he’d essentially have troops in place to exert his influence,” he added.

In light of these developments, Pritzker assured Illinois residents that the state would respond appropriately if National Guard troops are deployed. He took to social media to clarify, stating, “Unlike Donald Trump, we keep our promises.”

Pritzker dismissed the notion of an emergency in Chicago, accusing Trump of “misusing his power to create a crisis” and distract from ongoing issues affecting working families. “It’s surprising how long he’s been trying to shift attention from the real crisis that’s been facing Chicago for years,” said White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson.

The situation remains tense, with residents and officials alike awaiting further clarification from the White House regarding any actions Trump may decide to take.
