Governor of West Virginia reports that the victim in the DC National Guard shooting is gradually recovering.

A member of the West Virginia National Guard who was injured in last week’s mass shooting in Washington is gradually recovering, according to West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrissey.

Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolf’s head injury seems to be healing, and he is “starting to look ‘like himself,'” as noted by the governor, referencing comments from Wolf’s parents.

Wolf and Specialist Sarah Beckstrom were attacked while on patrol near a subway station just a few blocks from the White House on November 26. Sadly, Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Rahmanullah Rakanwar, a 29-year-old Afghan national, was charged with murder in connection to the incident, though he has pleaded not guilty.

Governor Morrissey shared that Wolf’s family anticipates he will need to stay in acute care for another two to three weeks. He urged West Virginians, as well as others across the nation, to keep Wolf in their thoughts and prayers.

A wake for Wolf was set for Friday evening at Musselman High School, where he graduated.

At just 24 years old, Wolf hails from Martinsburg, West Virginia, located about 70 miles northwest of D.C. He serves in the 167th Airlift Wing’s Troop Support Squadron of the West Virginia Air National Guard.

Since early 2023, he has also been working as a lineman for Frontier Communications.

Wolf joined the National Guard in 2019 right after finishing high school.

Principal Alicia Riggleman described Wolf as a dedicated and high-achieving student at Musselman, saying he “exemplified the Appleman spirit” and made significant contributions both academically and in sports.

Wolf and Beckstrom were among over 2,000 troops deployed to the nation’s capital as part of a crime-fighting initiative during President Donald Trump’s term, which included bolstering local police efforts.
