Graham and Cornyn Seek Special Advisor for Election Interference Inquiry

Senators Lindsey Graham from South Carolina and John Cornyn from Texas are urging Attorney General Pam Bondy to appoint a special advisor to look into freshly declassified information connected to the Obama administration’s intelligence assessment of Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election.

This request follows the announcement from Fox News Digital and comes a day after the Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated a “Strike Force” to examine the classified evidence disclosed by Tulsi Gabbard’s Director of National Intelligence.

Although Graham and Cornyn, who are both prominent figures on the Senate Judiciary Committee, didn’t address the strike force directly, they indicated in a statement that having independent officials manage politically sensitive investigations would serve the country well.

DOJ Launches Investigation into Declassified Evidence

“Appointing an independent advisor, as we have supported previously, would be a significant benefit to the nation,” they stated.

Gabbard’s declassified intelligence documents highlighted the Obama administration’s assertion that Russia aimed to support Donald Trump’s candidacy in 2016. During a recent press conference, Gabbard alleged that the Obama administration had misrepresented the situation, claiming they promoted the idea that “Russia interfered in the election to help Trump win” and sold it to the American public as factual.

Graham, who once led the Senate Judiciary Committee, previously oversaw the investigation into the FBI’s inquiry surrounding the alleged Trump-Russia collusion, arguing that the basis for launching an investigation into Trump back in 2020 was quite thin.

New Claims About Russian Intel

Graham and Cornyn expressed that the newly released information further clarifies that the Obama administration was responsible for the entirely fabricated rumors of Russian conspiracy, which they believe undermined the American people’s will.

Their remarks followed President Trump’s accusations of treason against Barack Obama, as the DOJ began a criminal investigation into former CIA chief John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey.

Some critics have claimed that Gabbard’s assertions contradict prior Congressional reviews, including some led by Republicans. Meanwhile, Obama has responded to headlines suggesting he attempted to sabotage Trump’s election efforts.

“We typically don’t dignify the absurdities and misinformation from this White House, but these allegations are so outrageous that they deserve a response,” said Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush. “These claims are ridiculous and are weak attempts at distraction.”

The DOJ has been contacted by Fox News for a comment regarding the suggestion for a special advisor.
