Federal Lawsuit Involving Karen Reed Case

A significant development has emerged in the legal arena linked to the Karen Reed case in the suburbs of Boston. A large ju apprentice has been charged with leaking confidential information about a closure hearing.

Jessica Leslie, who is involved in this lawsuit, has reportedly agreed to a plea deal, which includes a one-day sentence. According to court documents, she has committed to lend her time in some capacity. The lawsuit was initiated on July 11, and she signed the plea deal just three days later.

Meanwhile, Karen Reed has managed to evade murder charges, allowing her to pursue legal action against investigators who may have compromised her case.

The judge in the case found Reed not guilty of all murder-related charges concerning the death of former Boston police officer John O’Keefe, who is alleged to have died in an incident involving Reed’s vehicle. Reed’s defense team has consistently denied that her SUV struck him.

During her trial, the judge dismissed most of the state’s arguments, focusing instead on a driving under the influence charge.

According to federal prosecutors, Leslie leaked confidential details on May 26, 2022, which allegedly circulated among various individuals. The specific recipient of this leak was not disclosed in court records.

Importantly, Reed’s lawyers pinpoint a moment they believe “sealed the deal” in their defense during the murder trial.

Additionally, there are ongoing concerns regarding harassment of Reed even after being cleared of serious charges.

The details surrounding Leslie’s involvement remain vague, but sources close to the investigation confirmed a link to Reed. It’s worth noting that Reed faced previous charges of murder, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Last year’s trial resulted in a hung jury, but she emerged from her second trial without the most severe accusations against her.

Reed continues to face a wrongful death lawsuit from O’Keefe’s family, which also names two bars where he had been drinking shortly before his death. This lawsuit was filed in August 2024, but the court put it on hold pending the outcome of her second trial.

Reed has faced criticism for allegedly altering her account of events, thereby leading to accusations of creating false narratives that disrupted the justice process. The family claims this has resulted in significant emotional distress.

In a recent legal move, Reed’s civil attorney sought to dismiss the ongoing case against her.
