Grassley warns Putin is ‘playing America as a patsy’

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) urged President Trump on Friday to strike Russia with “the toughest sanctions,” claiming Vladimir Putin “plays America as Patsy.”

The White House did not immediately respond to requests to post comments.

Grassley, the Senate Speaker and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, tweeted the day after Russian forces hit Kiev, the capital of Kiev, Ukrainian capital, and Kiev with a barrage of ballistic missiles.

In nearly a year, Kiev’s most deadly attack killed 12 people and injured nearly 90 people.

“The overall peace deal effort between Russia and Ukraine is progressing smoothly,” Trump said. In the Truthful Social Post on Friday, he also called on Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky to sign off with the United States “quickly” saying the commander of the chief’s claim is “at least three weeks behind.”

On Thursday, Trump called on Putin to “stop” the attack on Kiev amid peace talks.

“I am not satisfied with Russia’s strike against Kiev,” Trump wrote on his social media platform. “It’s not necessary, it’s very bad timing.”

“Vladimir, stop! 5,000 soldiers are dying every week. Let’s close the peace deal!”

In another post, Trump claimed that Zelensky would “flatter” by refusing to acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory.

A bipartisan group of over 50 senators, including Grassley; Support Act introduced by Senator Kevin Kramer (R-ND) Earlier this month, the actor implemented sanctions against Russia and “an actor who supports Russian attacks if the country refuses to negotiate good negotiations for lasting peace with Ukraine, or refuses to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty after peace has been negotiated.”

The law also seeks to impose 500% tariffs on imports from countries that purchase Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products.

“The 2025 Russian Sanctions Act issues decisive results aimed at blocking Russian invasion,” Cramer said in a statement. “This bill sends a clear message. There is a price to pay for their actions. Vladimir Putin and Russia must face serious consequences of a destructive and unprovoked war against Ukraine.”
