Green Party Supports Refugee Amnesty and Free Housing for Undocumented Immigrants

Green Party Proposals on Immigration Spark Controversy

The Green Party is advocating for amnesty for undocumented immigrants, proposing free housing, access to the national healthcare system, and a universal basic income funded by taxpayers.

Recently, internal documents from Zak Polanski’s rapidly evolving party were leaked, revealing plans to financially support illegal immigration. These documents indicate a belief in a “world without borders,” asserting that immigration should not be criminalized.

The party posits that all immigrants deserve to be seen as “citizens-in-waiting” and should receive support to help them integrate into their new environment.

Moreover, the Greens believe that the UK has a “collective responsibility for the climate emergency,” which entails aiding those forced to relocate due to various circumstances.

This support would encompass free legal assistance, housing, and financial aid in the form of a universal basic income where applicable, alongside social services equivalent to those available to citizens, including healthcare and education.

Interestingly, the party stated that immigrants identifying as LGBTOIA+ would be prioritized for housing based on security considerations.

Many observers noted that the Green Party’s stance is even more progressive than Spain’s recent mass amnesty initiative, criticized for potentially increasing illegal immigration there.

Since leading the party, Polanski has attempted to moderate its immigration stance, suggesting that an open borders policy might not be feasible at this time.

While the recent proposals were not part of the official manifesto, a representative confirmed that they align with the party’s long-standing objectives.

“We take pride in this policy determined by our members… and we recognize its popularity. Our policies consistently rank highly in opinion surveys,” the spokesperson asserted.

As the Green Party faces an important by-election, they aim to challenge decades of Labor dominance in Gorton and Denton, seeking to attract left-leaning wealthy youths and the Muslim vote despite differing views on certain social issues.

To demonstrate a commitment to diversity, the party launched campaign ads in languages like Urdu and Bangla. They also campaigned at numerous mosques in the area leading up to the election.

Reform UK, competing closely with the Greens in this race, has criticized the party’s open borders policy as “dangerous.”

Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf claimed, “Under the Green Party’s plan, criminals will not only find a welcome but also be eligible for benefits like housing and healthcare.”
